Who We Are

afayette Avenue Presbyterian is a dynamic multi-racial, multi-cultural church nestled in the center of Brooklyn’s historic Fort Greene neighborhood. Fort Greene has been described by both the New York Times and Paris Match as the most exciting and vibrant neighborhood in Brooklyn.

The Lilly Endowment recently named Lafayette Avenue Church as one of the 300 Outstanding Protestant churches in the US. The Endowment identified LAPC as one of the American congregations that “nurture the human spirit, draw people closer to God, bring them into loving service and exemplify what is best in local churches throughout America.” Project director Paul Wilkes of the University of North Carolina said, “We looked for churches that nurtured the spirit, welcomed and yet challenged, both preached, and more importantly, lived the ‘Good News’. . . These churches we found are simply wonderful places to be. They not only take care of their members and the newcomer, but reach out generously into the world.”
