APC has long had a close relationship with PACC. LAPC’s Deb Howard is PACC’s Executive Director. Rev. Dyson sits on PACC’s board.
Established in 1964 by a group of neighbors united by collective concerns about their community, the Pratt Area Community Council (PACC) is today a thriving multi-tiered not-for-profit organization that maintains a fundamental commitment to community organizing. PACC joins with residents of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Clinton Hill and Fort Greene and develops local leaders to maintain neighborhood diversity and stability while battling rampant displacement. To safeguard the integrity of these communities PACC prevents unwarranted evictions and foreclosures, improves distressed properties, preserves and develops affordable housing and creates opportunities for homeownership and economic advancement.
PACC has also undertaken an ambitious campaign exposing the high levels of lead present in the paint and paint dust in the “lead-belt” neighborhoods of Bushwick, Bedford-Stuyvesant and Fort Greene. PACC is challenging the City of New York to revise it’s lead poisoning threshold and work to clean up, what is by all accounts, an avoidable epidemic.
