e recently completed work on Phase One of our multi-year capital campaign to repair and restore our 150 year old church.
addressed some of our most pressing needs, including a new slate roof for the church, the study and the bell tower. New copper gutters were installed, and the structural elements of the wooden cornice were repaired or replaced.
will continue the much-needed exterior renovation of the building, comprising the restoration and cleaning of the brownstone masonry and the repair and painting of all exterior woodwork, including the cornice, window frames and doors.
Phase Two will also include a complete renovation of our famed stained glass windows, 13 of which were created by Louis Tiffany himself. Repairing and conserving these historic stained glass windows is a top priority of Phase Two. Immediate funding is needed to halt the deterioration of these invaluable artistic treasures.
To accomplish this, we are making a concerted effort to reach out to potential foundation and corporate donors, and we are launching another three-year campaign pledge drive.
As we move ahead with our re-building campaign, we will offer many new ways to recognize donors’ generosity. Named Gift Opportunities are a great way for individuals or groups (Sunday School classes, clubs, etc.) to remember or honor loved ones in perpetuity.
Qualifying gifts begin at $1,000, and gifts to Phase One of the campaign may be combined with new pledges to Phase Two to reach various gift levels, from $1,000 to $100,000.
All donors of $2,500 or more will see their names listed on a permanent plaque in the church vestibule. A pew can be named for a gift of $5,000. A $25,000 donation will provide a donor with the opportunity to help preserve our precious stained glass windows. A plaque under each window will read “Restored with a gift from. . .” And for a $50,000 gift, a donor will be able to name a room.
