Vacation Bible School

August 19, 2019

"What would Jesus really do?" has become a cliche ́catch phrase and a stamp on a rubber bracelet. In a specially-designed LAPC curriculum co-constructed by community members, we hope to authentically interrogate that question with our youth in a way that allows a radical re-imagination of Jesus's work thousands of years after his lived experience. Within our program, our goals are to develop self-advocacy, purposeful collaboration, and restoration through an experiential analysis of Jesus’s life’s work and his stories.

Throughout our week together, we will use tenets of Jesus's activism as touchstones for understanding as we seek to develop purposeful collaboration, self advocacy, and restoration with our youth through multi-sensory text analysis, local field trips, cross-generational group activities, and mindfulness practices, including song and play.

  • Families and friends from our greater LAPC community with students entering Kindergarten through 6th grade in the fall:

  • Daily hours are 9am-3pm, with drop off at LAPC between 8:30-9am

  • Within a theme “What would Jesus really do?” our students will consider Jesus’s work thousands of years after his lived experience, as we aim to develop self-advocacy, purposeful collaboration, and restoration.

  • Students will enjoy a Day-Camp structure featuring

  • Neighborhood field trips/experiences

  • Interactive projects development

  • Daily outdoor play, including in nearby Fort Greene Park and playgrounds

  • Daily extra-curricular options, including:

  • Music and Song

  • Cooking

  • Crafts

  • Gardening

  • Vacation Bible School is free of charge, though we respectfully ask each participating family to please support the effort with a voluntary contribution at any level that may be right for them
