Holiday & Winter Edition Newsletter!

A Word from Rev. David F. Telfort

“Let me just say: Peace to you, if you're willing to fight for it.”

-Fred Hampton

This week marks the beginning of the liturgical season of Advent. This is a four week period where we await anew the birth of Jesus and look for ways God is at work in the world. Advent reminds us we can work for hope, peace, joy, and love even when the world as it is now, vastly contrasts the world as it should be. We remember that it was during Advent Rosa Parks sparks the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955, Fred Hampton is

assassinated by the FBI in 1969, and Water Protectors at Standing Rock win a temporary permit denial against The Army Corps of Engineers in 2016. Advent is a time for us to work for peace: in our lives, communities, nation, and our world. This month we invite us all to join in the life of worship here at LAPC as we are renewed and filled to go out and do the work of peace-making.

You will see in this newsletter invitations to a new member class, concerts, worship services, opportunities to support local businesses and ways to serve our church community and Fort Greene. Our prayer is that these opportunities will complement the frenzied energy that often accompanies this holiday season. Whether this is a season where you are mourning the loss of loved ones, a time that brings you exceeding joy or time you spend reflecting over the year that was; join us for the sacred act of peace-making. It won’t be the same without you.

Wishing You Hope, Peace, Joy & Love,

The Rev. David F. Telfort
